Sun Country files for Chapter 11
Shortly after we announced that Southwest Airlines was going to begin service to Minneapolis, we found out that another low-cost carrier was going to be leaving the market at the same time: Sun Country Airlines. This news doesn’t come to us as a surprise, however. Industry nuts have been expecting Sun Country to file for bankruptcy protection for some time. So what does this mean for consumer travelers? Not much, fortunately. Flights can will continue to operate as usual until further notice, and those with current reservations shouldn’t worry. With that said, we hope that Sun Country will continue to provide great low fares and excellent service. But with new competition moving into Minneapolis soon, it’s going to be a scary situation for Sun Country and their loyal customers.
UPDATE: We’re learning now that Sun Country could shutdown as early as December 1, 2008.
